Also pardon the start of this adventure in eschatology with words not even in the Bible
like millennium, dispensation, and rapture; however it does illustrate the persistence in
the minds of religious organizations for theology over Bible.  The emphasis on this Life
Beyond series will be on the realities of hell, heaven, the resurrection, and life on the new
earth centered around what Jesus thought was one of the most important eschatological
aspects for man to know, that is the COMFORT VERSUS POVERTY theme that He
introduced in telling of Lazarus in heaven and the rich man in hell. The rich man had his
comfort on earth while Lazarus begged for crumbs at his table, and the rich man unable
even in hell to appreciate his lack of status in eternity, asked Abraham to send Lazarus,
like an inferior to help him.  Eternal justice after the patience of God waiting for at least
7,000 years within itself demands a heaven and a hell.
It is questionable that anyone like Patterson, Dockery, and Erickson who have floated to
top leadership in religious politics, including in the once largest Protestant and Baptist
denomination, can every discuss eschatology on pure Bible rather than seeking a unity in
theology and Baptist history; thus this article on eschatology is disappointing on Bible but
good if you have not straightened out in your mind dispensationalism and the 3
millennium views.  Of course it is very dated, written in 1994, it does not include the
influence of Jeffries at FBC Dallas and others like him who are DTS graduates like
Jeremiah, and certainly it does not include the fiction based on fiction great influence of a
secret rapture based on the left behind series of fictional books by LeHaye.

I.  COMFORT VS POVERTY REVERSED

There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and
fared sumptuously

And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of

while studying graduate Physics at Baylor, the opportunity was also
afforded of taking the book of Revelation under him.  Summers and
McDowell in the "Meaning and Message of Revelation" come closer to real
Bible than any in our generation.  Of course Paul on the false secret rapture
came the closest in II Timothy.
